When nature and history come together
Cortegada Island is a small island of natural beauty and full of history.
It can be found in the estuary of River Ulla, close to the famous areas of bivalve production in Villagarcía de Arousa. Part of the Atlantic Islands Natural Park, it has the biggest Laurel forest in Europe. Besides, it was an ancient Galician village with its own chapel, showing us how our ancestors used to live. Its small beaches, its leafy trails and all its surroundings are the Island’s visit card within the Ria de Arousa.
Cortegada Island can be found at 14km of Arousa Island. We will be taking you to Bamio, close to Villagarcia de Arousa, where you will descend the river Ulla by Kayak, paddling among the bivalve farms straight to the Cortegada Island. Once there you can enjoy its trails to discover all its beauties. At the end we will collect you weather at Villagarcia de Arousa or Carril harbours, and drive you to the starting point.

Thank you Marta and Arturo for making my family enjoy every moment in this beautiful Island. You are extremely professional in what you do, with an excellent service given to people. We will be back soon.
It has been a few years since I do this activity with Piraguilla. They are among the few that offer us the possibility to access the Island of Cortegada. With their help it is a natural treasure of easy access. I strongly recommend as this Island has something special.
Unforgettable experience. The surroundings of the Island are surprisingly amazing, with a special kayak tour close to the shellfish productions. Such peace and quiet makes us wishing to come back soon.
